SC dragged into a tale of Many Ramayanas

New Delhi: After the Ram Sethu controversy, the Indian God is at the centre of yet another debate.

This time around, it’s an article Three hundred Ramayanas, a part of the book Many Ramayanas, which is generating much heat.

The article provides a different take on Hindu mythology, calls Hanuman a ladies man and shows Sita as a woman of questionable morals.

The Delhi University has included this essay as a part of its curriculum for its BA (H) second-year course.

The inclusion of the article in university syllabus has angered a group of intellectuals. These include a former ambassador, a deputy mayor of Delhi and a pro-Vice Chancellor of a north Indian university.

They approached Supreme Court and pleaded for the removal of this article from the university curriculum.

According to them, the book makes explicit suggestions that Sita was the daughter of Ravan, Sita was seduced by Ravan and Lakshman and Hanuman wan referred to as Ram's henchman and also a ladies' man

The Supreme Court disposed off the petition saying that the Delhi University will have to take a call on this.
