SC has to be satisfied not me: Modi

CNN-IBN

Gandhinagar: It was well past midnight when Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi appeared from the office of the Special Investigation Team. Despite being grilled by the Supreme Court appointed investigating body for almost 9 hours, Modi looked quite relaxed as he paused to answer the media waiting outside the SIT office.

Here is what Narendra Modi said:

What kind of questions did the SIT ask?

All the questions, the answers and the comments on it will be given to the Supreme Court. Then the Supreme Court will decide what is to be done.

Is your questioning over?

I have been told that my work is done.

Tell us about the problems you faced during the questioning?

First let me discuss your problems with you! The Supreme Court has to decide what happened inside. I cannot comment.

Was this probe on the Gujarat riots or was it to discuss what happened in the Gulburg episode?

The probe discussed everything from 23rd February, from the end of the elections till now.

How many questions were you asked?

I did not count.

Is the SIT as serious about the investigation as you are?

By looking at all of you, it seems so.

What was the most difficult question you were asked?

This one you are asking me now.

Are u satisfied with the probe?

The Supreme Court has to be satisfied not me.

But you are the one who has been made to stand in the witness box?

I am still standing in your witness box right now, you have put me here for the last eight years.

Do you think investigation was biased?

The SIT team has been chosen by the Supreme Court. There is no officer from Gujarat in the team.

Do you think you will get a clean chit now and the victims will also be satisfied?

At that time I used to hold regular Press Conferences, daily briefings. Then the Commission began their investigation and I decided I will speak only when the Commission asks me to.

Will you appear before the Nanvati Commission if they ask?

You have answered the question yourself.
