New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday took suo-moto cognizance over the alleged contemptuous remarks that former Army Chief General VK Singh made against the apex court on September 22 in connection with his age row case in a report that was published in 'The Indian Express'.
The General had made certain comments in the report attacking the SC saying that the court had not gone into the merits of the arguments that he had given on the issue during the proceedings.
SC after hearing the issue had asked the retired genral to either withdraw his petition or invite an adverse judgement. Singh's council had thereafter withdrawn his petition from the court and the case had ended without a judgement.
A year later as Singh has made allegations against the Supreme court, the court has decided to take up a contempt petition against him. The hearing is scheduled to take place at 2 pm on Tuesday and will be presided by Justice RM Lodha.
