SC refuses to intervene in Amban

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Temporary relief for Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani as the Supreme Court has refused to interfere with the Bombay HC order that had stayed all proceedings pertaining to the land, which Ambani had bought from the state WAKF Board.

He had purchased the land in 2002 to build a private residence in the heart of Central Mumbai.

The WAKF Board had earlier moved Bombay HC against Mukesh Ambani's Antilia constructions that carried out the deal, asking for restoration of the land.

The WAKF Board alleged that the land transfer was illegal.

Later the Maharashtra government had ordered an inquiry but said the matter should be worked out between the WAKF Board and the Ambanis.

Earlier, the Maharashtra government said that it isn't singling out Ambani and has in fact raised questions about other land deals as well including a 26 acre plot in Nanded, a 10 acre piece of land in Khej in Beed district and a 24 hectare plot at Satara village in Aurangabad district.

The Ambanis are constructing a plush 27 floor skyscraper on the piece of land at a cost of Rs 8,000 crore.

The idea of the new home came to Mukesh's wife Nita Ambani after a spa overlooking New York's lush Central Park.

It is being created by the best architects and designers in the world in consultations with architecture firm Perkins Will and Hirsch Bedner Associates. The Rs 8000-crore house will be Mukesh Ambani's private island in the concrete jungle of Mumbai.
