New Delhi: There seems to be some relief for Gujarat IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt. The Supreme Court has stayed all proceedings by the Gujarat government against Bhatt. The next date of hearing in the case is July 15.
The Gujarat government had filed a case against Bhatt, alleging he coerced a constable to depose falsely before the Special investigating Team (SIT).
Bhatt had petitioned the Supreme Court, saying the matter should not be probed by the SIT. Sanjiv Bhatt had told the SIT that he took part in a February 2002 meeting at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's residence.
Constable Pant had first supported Bhatt's statement and then retracted later.
