New Delhi: The Supreme Court has upheld the cancellation order regarding mining leases of six mining companies in Jharkhand. The state government had recommended the granting of mining leases to six mining firms between 2004 and 2005. The recommendation was made to the Centre.
Subsequently, the recommendation was withdrawn by the state government on the grounds that the land was meant for PSUs.
The leases were cancelled by the Madhu Koda government.
The companies had approached the High Court but did not get relief. They later went to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has upheld the order of the state government which cancelled the leases.
The six mining companies are:
Monnet Ispat and Energy Ltd
Jharkhand Ispat Ltd
Prakash ispat Ltd
Adhunik Alloys and Power Ltd
Abhijeet Infrastructure Ltd
Ispat Industries Ltd
