New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is fending off allegations that its process to allot around 5,000 flats was rigged and hijacked by builders.
The Government has announced that DDA flats will not be allotted till a probe into the allotment process is completed. The process came under a cloud after it was fond at least five persons had been allotted flats though they had given the same cell phone number in the application documents.
There were five applications against which there was no address, but the DDA claims that the list circulated in the media did not match its records.
"The allegations are not true. In case of any rejection after finding irregularity, the flats will go to wait-listed candidates," said Neemo Dhar, DDA’s public relations officer, at a press conference on Monday.
BJP leader V K Malhotra has demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation probe the allotments. “A big scam has been committed in the allotment of flats by the DDA in connivance with property dealers. This scam should be referred for further probe to the CBI, he said.
The DDA, for now, has promised that no successful applicant will be given possession of flat without thorough scrutiny. "We have not issued any demand letter and allotment letter and before that we would scrutinise the allotments so that no fraudulent allotments take place,” said Asma Manzar, DDA Housing Commissioner.
The Union Urban Development Ministry has put the allotment process on hold till the Economic Offences Wing completes it probe and DDA authorities say they will come out clean.
