Mumbai: An ICSE school in Mumbai, run by the Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal has hiked the fees this year and the parents of students allege that they did so without consulting them.
The parents have not only taken the school to the court but have also approached the President and the state government.
Around 4000 students study at the ICSE school in Mumbai which also claims to be among the best in the city.
The management has hiked the fees this year from Rs 16 thousand to Rs 25 thousand, a jump of over 50 per cent.
Parents are up in arms against the unwarranted hike as they feel they are being fleeced by the school.
"They earn around Rs seven crore just out of fees every year. Is not that enough? But they have shown losses! Whereas their balance sheet proves that they have transferred funds for something else," says Minesh Shah, parent.
Meanwhile students are being served notices to pay up and parents claim that students are being unnecessarily harassed.
"Every day I hear that teachers are asking students to pay the fees or face the consequences," said another parent Naresh Makani.
When CNN-IBN tried to contact the authorities at the school, they chose to remain tight-lipped. The Principal has refused to comment stating the matter is subjudice.
But the parents are leaving no stone unturned. They have appealed to the Bombay High Court and have also shot off a letter to the President hoping he will come to their rescue.
