New Delhi/Bangalore: A day after the Health Ministry issued guidelines to schools asking them not to shut down due to swine flu, the schools have become more cautioned against the virus.

All the schools across the country are educating their students about the precautions to be taken against the swine flu.

“Two of our teachers went for a lecture by the Health Ministry and we are counselling all our teachers about it,” says Delhi’s ASN school primary wing incharge Madhu Kapur.

The Health Ministry has also asked the schools to suspend morning assemblies to contain the spread of the flu among the children.

Many schools in Bangalore too reopened after a week’s closure but not all are buying the logic of the new guidelines.

“Not conducting assembly will not help, it is difficult to control the big gatherings in schools. We have decided to fight H1N1 virus by teaching students basic health etiquette,” says Army Public School (Bangalore) Principal, Manjula Raman.

Several educational institutions have even tied up with hospitals to conduct awareness campaigns in the schools so that teachers and students are better prepared to fight swine flu.

Even the World Health Organisation says this is a better way to keep the virus at bay rather than press the panic button.

But schools in Pune and Mumbai will take a little more time to reopen.

While Mumbai schools will reopen on August 20, kids in Pune can hope to resume classes on August 23.
