The solution to ration that keeps while retaining taste is finally here. Scientists in the US seem to have developed a pizza that has a shelf life of three years, The Mirror reported.
Faced with the demands of soldiers posted abroad who were reportedly desperate for pizza, scientists at the Natick Combat Feeding Directorate have come up with the 'shelf stable pizza,' which is now in the final stage of taste testing, the report said.
The new variety is likely to be added to the American Army's menu of MREs, which stands for 'Meal, Ready to Eat.'
"Since the dawn of time, almost, pizza has been one of the most requested and sought-after components in an MRE," Jeremy Whitsitt, of the Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center in Massachusetts, is quoted as saying by The Mirror to The Army Times.
MREs are nutritional staples for combat troops engaged in the battlefield.
