Gwalior: The Scindia royals are pitting against each other in the princely estate of Gwalior. Nephew Jyotiraditya Scindia and aunt Yashodhra Raje Scindia are fighting by-polls under Congress and BJP flags in their one time capital city.
If Congress wins, Jyotiraditya Scindia will take credit. He may not be a candidate himself but he is too deeply involved. In fact, his trademark style of electioneering is all too evident.
"I represent the Scindia family. Our relations with Gwalior people goes back to over 250 years. You have to vote for the Congress," said Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Meanwhile, Jyotiraditya’s aunt Yashodra Raje Scindia is trying to cash on her mother, late Vijay Raje's goodwill to earn some votes for BJP in the constituency. She freely takes the name of the Rajmata as she canvasses support for herself.
"If you had faith in my mother you should also have faith in me,” said Yashodhra Raje Scindia.
The Gwalior seat fell vacant after Ram Sevak Gurjar of the Congress party was stripped of his membership after being caught in the cash-for-query scam. This could weigh heavily on the electorate though both parties shied from referring to it during the campaign.
