Mumbai: If you thought that Hrithik Roshan in Krrish has supernatural powers, think again.
It is actually the handiwork of a deft editor.
Children should not try filmy stunts at home, because if truth be known, Hrithik can't fly either.
The actor was suspended with the help of wire cables and if you can't see them, thank editor Amitabh Shukla.
A graduate from the Film and Television Institute of India, Shukla helped Hrithik's flight in Krrish.
So were the special effects for Krrish limited just to clean removal of wire cables?
"Wire removal was the smallest part of of editing if you were to look at Krrish in terms of visual effects. There is a lot of blue screen work, there are a lot of motion ramps, there are a lot of CG objects and a whole virtual set, which have been created. So computer imagery I think was integral to the success of Krrish," says Shukla.
Shukla has films like Naina, Paheli, Chalte Chalte, Bluffmaster and now Krrish to his credit and believes that while editing may not be a simple job, it is the actors who get a raw deal, especially when they have to act in front of screens for special effects-heavy films.
"Sometimes it becomes difficult because actors are reacting to thin air. So we devise ways and means that there might be a person standing behind the screen or there might be a dot that has been painted on or there might be somebody standing there making funny faces at them to draw their attention and say okay, this is the kind of cue that you are going to get," says Shukla.
So the next time you see Shah Rukh Khan doing the disappearing act, it's probably Amitabh Shukla is hard at work.
As for his next films, you'll see the editor showcase his skills in the John Abraham starrer Kabul Express and Manish Jha's Anwar.
