London: A team of detectives from Scotland Yard are flying to Mumbai to help Indian authorities with the investigations in the terror attack that claimed nearly 200 lives amid reports about involvement of some British descent militants in the dastardly act.

Reports had said Britons were among those who carried out the attacks in Mumbai are being investigated by security experts.

It has been reported that seven of the gunmen were thought to have British links, with some suspects said to be from Leeds, Hartlepool and Bradford. "So far there was no evidence that any were British," the UK Foreign Office said.

Yesterday, an Indian official said two Pakistanis of British descent were among eight militants arrested.

Foreign Secretary David Miliband said it was "too early to say" if the attackers were British for definite. "I'm afraid I can't tell you anything about the names or origins or sources of this attack at this stage," he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

Meanwhile the UK authorities did not confirm the dispatching of Scotland Yard team to aid Mumbai terror probe.

"There is no information about the Scotland Yard sending a team to Mumbai but specialists including police security officials are helping British High Commission staff to assist British nationals affected by the terrorists' attack," a spokesman for the Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) told PTI.
