SC order a balanced one: Wakf board lawyer

New Delhi: Sunni Wakf Board lawyer Zafaryab Jilani says he is satisfied with the Supreme Court decision of staying the Allahabad High Court's order on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute.

Jilani, who was upset after the September 30 Allahabad High Court's decision of splitting the land into three parts, said on Monday, "Today's order was a balanced order."

"No religious worship will be allowed at the disputed site," he said.

After the apex court stayed the Allahabad High Court's order, the case will again go fir hearing. When asked how long it could take to have a final verdict in the case, Jilani said it should not take much time for a final order to come, as the Judges are well aware of the dispute.

He said that the High Court's order was different from the relief for which the appeal filed by Sunni Wakf board. ""We were quite surprised with the High Court bench order," he said.

Sunni Wakf board Counsel Anoop Chowdhary said, "Our suite should be allowed and decreed."

Chowdhary also said that the situation at ground zero will remain as it was during the tendency of the suit and status quo will continue.

The Supreme Court on Monday stayed Allahabad High Court's verdict on Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute. The two-judge bench of Justice Aftab Alam and Justice RS Lodha was critical of the High Court verdict observing that it was "strange" as nobody had asked for partition of the land.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the High Court's verdict of dividing the 2.77 acre disputed site into three parts among Muslims, Hindus and Nirmohi Akhara, different religious groups had approached the apex court.

The appeals were filed by Nirmohi Akhara, Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, Jamait Ulama-I-Hind and Sunni Central Wakf Board. A petition was filed on behalf of Bhagwan Ram Virajman.
