Gulmarg: Despite slim chances of success, the search for a Norwegian tourist who went missing on January 8 in Kashmir is on.
26-year-old Franciska Rogni of Norway knew the slopes of Gulmarg like the back of her hand. Adept in skiing on the risky terrain, she had returned last year after spending three days in the jungles. But whether she will resurface this time after ten days remains unclear. Officials say there are slim chances of her survival.
``People from the Norwegian embassy have gone back. We have called the search operations off but whenever we get clue of some movement, we send our people for the rescue,'' says Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mehboob Iqbal.
Patrol teams descend from the Khilanmarg, Alipather, Yousmarg and Drang slopes everyday to trace her but have been successful so far. Some skiers believe she may have strayed across the Line of Control to Pakistan occupied Kashmir. However, that seems highly unlikely, as the Line of Control lies covered in 6-9 feet of snow.
