Mumbai: A bumpy ride that can deter the bravest—that’s Mumbai for you, after the rains. Roads in the big city have a taken a severe beating because of the deluge. And the commuters are once again dealing with the problem of potholes.

"Just take a look, there are so many potholes. Vehicles keep moving and splashing muddy water on pedestrians. It’s very difficult to move on this road,” says Dipak, one of the commuters.

As every year, this time too, the city's roads have taken a beating after two months of rains. The suburban roads are the worst hit.

Take for instance the stretch of road in the Santacruz area. Locals say the civic bodies do repair potholes, but the shoddy work hardly stands a chance against nature's fury.

"They just do some little patch work. If they did some better work, it would be nice,” said Mohammed Salim, a shopkeeper.

So as the bumpy ride to and from work continues, take it slow or take it fast you just cannot avoid hurting your precious baby (read car).

"The car gets ruined completely because of the potholes. It really hurts a lot,” said Moolchand, a driver.

The monsoon in Mumbai is in its last legs, but it seems that the season of potholes is here to stay.
