The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed market regulator SEBI to interrogate Ramalinga Raju and his brother for three days starting on Wednesday. In a Network 18 exclusive CNN-IBN's correspondent Pranshu Sikka talked to SEBI lawyer Pratap Venugopal.
Here is an excerpt from the interview -
Pranshu Sikka: Tell us, Mr Venugopal what has Supreme Court said in this case now?
Pratap Venugopal: The SC has permitted SEBI to interrogate Raju brothers who are presently in Chanchalguda Jail in Hyderabad through its General Manager, Sunil Kumar, who is also the authorised investigator. The interrogation is to take place from February 4 to February 6.
Pranshu Sikka: What do you think is the key argument which swung it your way?
Pratap Venugopal: It is the SEBI's case where the Andhra Pradesh High Court has not viewed the matter in the proper perspective. It has taken the view that merely because the Magistrate had rejected SEBI's application for interrogation and the notice should be served on these two brothers.
But, the SC felt that SEBI being an investigating agency should have an access to the person involved espacially when they were in custody. SEBI was merely asking for a chance to interrogate the two brothers.
