New Delhi: Security vigil across the country, particularly in metro cities, was stepped up after three explosions rocked Mumbai on Wednesday evening, official sources in New Delhi said.

According to home ministry officials, all state governments have been asked to heighten security measures.

"All the state governments have been asked to increase police patrolling and keep forces on high alert," a home ministry official said.

The increased security measures come as more than a dozen people were reported injured in three explosions that rocked Mumbai on Wednesday evening.

One blast took place in Dadar in central Mumbai and the other two in Zaveri Bazar and the Opera House in south Mumbai.

All three are busy commercial and residential areas.

This is the second attack in Mumbai after the November 2008 terror strike in which 166 people were killed.
