Sabarimala: The annual pilgrim season in Sabarimala has begun and as usual devotees are flowing to the hill shrine. Kerala Police is doing all it can to provide security to all and is starting an early vigil right from the base camp.
With Travancore Devaswom Board expecting a record turn out of devotees for this pilgrim season at Sabarimala, providing foolproof security is a big challenge for the Kerala government. The government has already pumped in Rs 4.72 crores for this purpose.
“Every year we increase the police personal because people coming also increase and this year we are putting 20 per cent more police personnel and all other measures needed,” says south zone IG Arun Kumar Sinha.
The devotees need to be ready for a lot of checking if they plan to visit the temple The exercise begins from the base camp at Pampa, first the metal detectors and finally your baggage will pass through the scanner. And, it doesn’t stop here. The guards will be watching the visiters every step.
Closer to the sanctum sanctorium, devotees will find the state police's elite commandos with fully loaded automatic weapons but police say that no devotee will be harassed.
“Really the security is heightened and we are really happy with the security. We feel really safe now,” says a devotee Raghuvendra Reddy.
