New Delhi: The Andhra Pradesh government has announced permanent security measures for Hyderabad’s Mecca Masjid.
Twenty-one security cameras will be installed at the masjid along with five door detectors and six hand-held metal detectors.
The Hyderabad police have also decided to train the masjid's security staff. There's also a proposal to install mobile jammers.
These measures have been announced six days after the blast at the masjid that killed 11 people.
The measures were announced at a meeting attended by police officials, the masjid's clergy and representatives from the Archeology department.
At least a thousand people were at prayer in the Mecca Masjid, the city’s largest mosque, when a blast shook the place at around 1325 hours in May 18.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajshekhar Reddy, who was in Delhi, said two bombs were defused at the mosque after the blast. Another live bomb was found some three hours later.
Hyderabad MP Assaudin Owasi claimed that his supporters saw an unattended bag at the mosque and claimed the blast was similar to the explosions in Malegaon and Nanded in Maharahstra last year.
