Senior Indian diplomat attacked in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: A senior Indian diplomat was attacked in Kathmandu this morning near the Indian Embassy.

Diplomatic sources say his car was attacked by a mob when he was on his way to the office.

SK Joshi is the Head of Chancery at the Indian Embassy.

Usually diplomatic and UN vehicles are spared during civil unrest.

Sources indicate this was a targeted attack.

Anti maoist protests have been going on in the capital since Wednesday.

The attack comes just days before external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee's visit to Kathmandu.

He arrives there on the November 24.
