Mumbai: A 33-year-old Pakistani national Pervez Jaffer Soda has been in India for the last 9-years out of which he served a jail term in Pune's Yerwada prison in a Hawala case for 8 and a half years.
Although he finished serving his sentence in December last year, he has not been able to go back home.
“When I was released, I was brought to the police station in Mumbai. I couldn't go back to my nation," says Pervez Soda, who was a Pakistani businessman.
It is at Senior Police Inspector Yashwant Vatkar’s police station at Sakinaka in Mumbai that Pervez has been living for the past three months because the documents for his deportation are yet to come through.
“There are still some official processes left between the two governments,” says Senior Police Inspector, Yashwant Vatkar.
Pervez's passport has expired, which is causing delay in completing all formalities. However, he has used these three months at the police station to build bridges and making friends.
“We play volleyball and carrom together. He will miss us when he goes to Pakistan,” says constable, Mir Mohammed.
Despite the comforts, Pervez is restless to go home.
“I don't understand what the problem is. All my documents are in order. I don't understand which government is at fault. Here or there,” questions Pervez.
Although Pervez is a free man according to Indian courts, his freedom is limited to the walls of the police station. It is hoped that his life is not wasted because of the politics between two nations.
