Masses gathered at the Eidgah grounds in Srinagar to offer Friday prayers and register a protest as also sound a battle cry.
At the “biggest pro-freedom rally” the separatists announced there won't be any let up in the ongoing agitation and has called for a strike this weekend, ahead of a march to Lal Chowk on Monday.
"This is the Hurriyet's third rally in a week and now the leadership now wants new delhi to hear the people of Kashmir out."
The separatists' call for freedom is reverberating among mainstream political parties as well. The PDP is already treading what many call a 'mainstream separatist' line.
Not to be left out, National Conference chief Omar Abdullah has also made an unprecedented demand. "The Government of India should go the whole hog. Lets talk about the UN security resolutions and let India initiate the process of dialogue,” he said.
The separatists aren't surprised at the turn of events. "It’s high time both NC and PDP think where they want to go, with the people or be in isolation,” said Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq.
As the pressure on the separatist leadership to deliver on the hallowed promise of Azadi builds, the mainstream political parties seem to be scrambling for relevance.
