Belgrade: The Serbian national team has departed for the World Cup after posing for a team photo in front of Europe's largest Orthodox church, hoping some divine help will give them a place in the knockout round in South Africa.

Striker Nikola Zigic said on Monday the team will do "whatever we can to get into the second round."

Serbia faces Ghana, Germany and Australia in Group D.

Forward Marko Pantelic views the opening match against Ghana as key to the team's success. He said "if we beat Ghana in the first match, everything will be much easier."

All 23 players and the coaching staff posed for a photo in front of the St. Sava Christian Orthodox Church in Belgrade, sending a signal they believe religion can help their performance in South Africa.
