6 BSP legislators join Congress in Rajasthan

Jaipur: Six Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLAs in Rajasthan have joined the Congress, giving the ruling party a majority in the state assembly.

This significant development came as a relief to the Congress after its powerful legislator in Rajasthan Kirori Lal Meena’s wife, who is also a minister, threatened to leave the party. Kirori Lal was upset with the Congress for not fielding him from Dausa.

“He wanted to contest from Dausa so the Congress has agreed to this. I am happy that the Congress wants to have a stable government in Rajasthan and work for the welfare of the people in Rajasthan,” says Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

The BSP MLAs have sited money changing hands in the party for the tickets as the reason for their decision to opt out of the party.

“We have nothing against Mayawati but there was money changing hands for tickets at the state level which we brought to her notice but no action was taken. We have joined the Congress to make the government more stable and extend support to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot,” says BSP MLA from Udaipurvati, Jaipur Rajendra Gudha.

The recent chain of events have triggered internal party disputes in BSP however the Congress can heave a sigh of relief in Rajasthan for now.
