VELLORE: As many as seven buildings, including three houses, were demolished in a drive against encroachments by the Vellore Corporation that began on Friday.
The drive was being conducted following an inspection by Corporation Commissioner Seeni Ajmal Khan.
On Friday, the civic body had demolished four buildings, including three in Guruthoppu Phase I. There, a house was found to be occupying a piece of land earmarked for a school and a playground.
In addition to this, two temporary sheds functioning as shops were also demolished. Besides, two more sheds and a house situated on a piece of land allotted for a park by the local administration were demolished.
Another house at Guruthoppu Phase I, which was situated on land earmarked for a well and an over head tank by the Corporation, was also razed on Saturday.
Vellore Corporation Town Planning Officer Kannan and Building Inspector Madhivannan supervised the entire operation.
