Hence, Delhi schoolteacher Uma Khurana is out on bail after spending more than a week behind bars.
A trial court in Delhi called her "a victim and not an offender" while granting her bail.
The judge also said that investigations so far reveal Khurana has been framed. This statement echoed High Court’s observation that Khurana was entrapped.
Though the Delhi police too did not oppose this observation, they also came up with a legality which might come in the way of Khurana being absolved of all charges.
Delhi police said Khurana can’t be discharged because she is shown escorting a girl with the intention of trafficking, but accepted there was a sinister plan to frame her.
Live India reporter Prakash Singh posed as an artificial jewellery exporter after hearing of Khurana’s interest in jewellery. He promised to help the teacher if she procured girls for him.
Delhi police say that Khurana refused on multiple occasions but finally relented when a acquaintance Vijendra Kumar sent a budding journalist Rashmi Singh who posed as a prostitute.
This led to Khurana’s entrapment.
“We will sue for defamation all those who were involved with this sting,” said Khurana's lawyer.
Delhi police now have two days to put Khurana and Prakash Singh face to face and a final report will be given to the high court on Wednesday.
The Delhi government will also have to look into Khurana's dismissal.
