New Delhi: A major prostitution racket has been busted in the capital involving foreign nationals. The police have arrested a woman from Uzbekistan who is allegedly responsible for running the lives of at least 50 young women.
Police say Laila along with her elder sister Umeida and her husband Rajneesh had been running an international prostitution racket for the past three years.
The three are now being questioned to find others who could be involved in the case.
“These guys came from Uzbekistan, Kazakh and other central republic nations and used to call women luring them for modeling,” says DCP South Delhi, H G S Dhaliwal.
Rajneesh and Ubeida joined Laila two years back. Rajneesh, who ran a transport business, married Umeida as he realised he could get a share of this extremely lucrative prostitution racket.
“They would keep their passports and then the girl would be trapped. They had to do whatever they told them,” Dhaliwal adds.
After handing over their passports the girls had no way of proving their identity. Even though there was a lot of exploitation, the victims just couldn’t complain.
It was a very profitable racket. The trio was living in a rented posh South Delhi apartment making more than Rs 5 lakh a month. But luck ran out and the police arrested them after a victim complained.
