Jodhpur: Eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani, who is defending self-proclaimed godman Asaram in a sexual assault case, on Monday said the minor girl is mentally unstable. Asaram is accused of allegedly sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl in his Jodhpur ashram.
Meanwhile, the judicial custody of Asaram has been extended for another 14 days in the sexual assault case against him. Asaram will have to stay in jail as the hearing on his bail plea has also been adjourned till September 18.
The hearing on his bail plea will come up in the Rajasthan High Court on Wednesday. Last week a lower court had rejected the bail of 72-year-old Asaram who was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a minor.
Meanwhile, counsel for the girl, who was allegedly sexually exploited by Asaram has claimed to have received threats from followers of the self-styled godman. Lawyer of the girl, Manish Vyas, claimed that the threat was issued to a friend of the girl's father asking him to withdraw the statements of her daughter against Asaram.
Referring to an audio clip, Vyas said the girl and her family continue to receive threats from Asaram's followers. "I have urged the police to ensure adequate security to the family," Vyas said.
Meanwhile, in another case, a Madhya Pradesh court will hear the case relating to land allotment to Asaram's ashram in Indore. The land in Indore was allotted to Asaram in 1998 by the then Congress government led by Digvijaya Singh.
