“After 21 years, I am making a film with Shaji Kailas,” says actor Jayaram at the puja ceremony of the film, ‘Madirashi’ at the Le Meridien, Kochi. Their last film together was ‘Kilukkampetti’. “It is a very nice script by Rajesh Jayaraman. I wish the best of luck to the two producers, Kichu Films and Impresario, since this is their first film.”
Jayaram looks dapper and casual at the same time: a brown shirt over torn blue jeans and black shoes. Acting opposite Jayaram as heroines are Meghna Raj and Meera Nandan. While Meghna caught the eye wearing an off-the-shoulder black dress, outsize earrings, and silver-coloured stilettos, Meera was in a traditional green and maroon salwar kameez.
Says Meera: “I am very glad to share screen space with Jayaram. I have hosted many events for Impresario, so I am happy to be acting in their first film.” Meghna also expressed her joy to be in the film.
The lamp was lit by veteran directors Joshy, senior actor Janardhanan, director Shaji Kailas, Milan Jaleel, the president of the Kerala Film Producers’ Association, and Harish Babu, the Managing Director of Impresario, among others.
Harish says, “We had always wanted to enter the film industry, but did not get the right opportunity. We feel that the future in Malayalam movies is of corporates making films. As a company, we also wanted to reach out to the mass market. Thus far, we have done many events for the corporate world.”
The 40-day shoot of ‘Madhirashi’ will commence on July 10 and will be done on location in Palakkad, Coimbatore, and in a village called Madhirashi, just like the film’s title, near Coimbatore. “The story is of a village boy who goes to the town one day to buy a bicycle,” says director Shaji Kailas. “He wants to take part in the national cycling championships. However, in the town an incident takes place and the boy is also caught up in it. The story continues from there.”
