Bhopal: RTI activist and Bhopal Team Anna member Shehla Masood was shot dead outside her house a little after 11 am on August 16. When the police reached the spot later at noon, they seized her car and two mobile phones for examination. Phone call records accessed by CNN-IBN show that calls were made from her number six hours after her death. On August 17, a day after her murder, a call was made to an Art of Living Centre and two calls were made to a Mandla number.
Victim's brother Arsh said, "Police had taken the phones in their custody and now we come to know that calls were being made from her phone after she was dead. This is serious. It's tampering with evidence."
Earlier on Monday when the CBI recreated the scene of crime with the help of her family members, they found a pendant and a file from Shehla's car. After searching her office premises in MP Nagar, the police also discussed the forensic report with expert Dr DS Barkul who had conducted the post-mortem.
Dr Barkul said, "The CBI team discussed the details of the post-mortem report. The cause of death was bullet injury and the bullet was found lodged in the victim's body."
For three weeks that the Bhopal police investigated Shehla Masood's death, they called it a case of suicide. With the CBI stumbling upon crucial evidence including tampered phone records in police custody on day 1 of its probe, the Bhopal police may end up with egg on its face.
