Bhopal: Six months after she was found dead outside her residence in Bhopal, the CBI claims to have cracked the murder of RTI activist Shehla Masood. An interior designer, Zahida Pervez, and 4 others have been arrested for the murder. But strangely, the CBI is silent on the motive.
Masood was found dead outside her home in Bhopal on August 16, 2011. According to CBI, Pervez orchestrated her murder hiring a contract killer to do the job.
But here's how the conspiracy unfolded.
Zahida allegedly paid a Bhopal resident, Saqib, to hire contract killers. Saqib then hired Irfan and Shanu to carry out the murder. Irfan and Shanu then travelled from Kanpur to do the job.
The CBI has arrested 4 men involved in the conspiracy. Shanu, however, was killed in an unrelated incident sometime ago. The arrested persons will be produced in the designated court at Bhopal tomorrow.
At Koh-e-Fiza, the posh locality where Shehla was shot dead, her father says he's a relieved man.
"Thank God. I have come to know through media reports. No one has officially told me about this arrest," he said.
While the CBI says it has cracked the case, the question remains, why is it silent on the motive behind the murder?
Shehla was shot when she was just about to leave for an India Against Corruption campaign. Several politicians and bureaucrats have been questioned in connection with murder. While her family may be relieved, they say they would like to hear about the motive behind the murder from the CBI itself.
