The main points of criticism of the BRT remain that the corridor takes away 7mts from an already congested stretch and that the design doesn’t factor in the ever increasing vehicular traffic.
"It is crucial to choose the stretch correctly, on this stretch the BRT is a complete disaster. The only way it could be viable is if it were to be an elevated corridor," Head, School of planning and Architecture, PK Sarkar.
The government now seems ready for a rethink.
"What might work here may not be successful in East Delhi so the changes as recommended will be incorporated before the work on the other stretches is complete," adds Sheila Dikshit.
The second stretch of the BRT corridor between Moolchand and Delhi gate will be open for trial run in January next year. Even as completion work picks up speed, the govt will have to incorporate scientific changes so as to make the 100 crore project viable.
