Sheila Dikshit is the face that has won the national Capital's confidence for a record third time.
This feat is astonishingly remarkable because no Congressman has done it in the past twenty-five years.
The friendly matriarch, the urban connect and the carefully conveyed concern for Delhi, Sheila Dikshit has come to mean so much for the city.
Congress Lok Sabha member Karan Singh says, "Delhi is in the process of transformation. Sheila was presiding over it, flyover roads, that is why people voted for her."
It is almost a mandate for Sheila, more than the congress, and the chief minister spoke through her actions, from attending almost ten to twelve campaign rallies to a systematic distribution of tickets, its been an all out Sheila show.
In fact, Sheila's total control over ticket distribution ticked off many old timers. Even her protégé Ajay Maken was no match for Sheila's complete sway over Delhi Congress.
Sheila turned every anti-incumbency slogan against her into a positive vote for what she has achieved for Delhi.
She said she had built these flyovers to a new destiny for the Capital. She identified herself with the changing face of Delhi, the malls, the transport system and the commonwealth games.
It is an agenda that is her own creation.
An election that was clearly overshadowed by terror was won on development, and even though in true congress style no chief minister was declared, Sheila showed this victory was on her own steam.
A true Sonia loyalist, by taking Delhi decisively for the third time, she has given the best possible gift to Sonia Gandhi ahead of her birthday.
