Shillong: The third season of Indian Idol may be over, but in its aftermath, an air of unease has settled in Shillong.

And things got out of hand when a victory celebration in Jhadupara, Shillong, for India's cricket victory and Prashant Tamang’s win in Indian Idol 3, turned violent as miscreants started pelting stones at the revellers.

However, the situation soon came under control as the police restrained the crowd.

While some reacted to second runner-up Amit Paul’s failure in violence, the majority of Shillong is upset and silent, refusing to believe that someone else has been crowned the new Indian Idol.

Businessman Dwarka Singhania, who is a Amit Paul fan, says, “Nothing is changed. For us he is the Indian Idol and he will remain one for us always.”

While Amit’s sister Meenakshi Paul says, “Amit is very young. At this stage in his life he got the title of brand ambassador. He united the people of Shillong so nicely, so I am very happy.”

So, as cheerleaders wait to recover and revive their support for their hero, for the moment, the messages of love and support stays united in the main square of Shillong.

As the brand ambassador of peace and communal harmony the journey now begins for Amit and with this amount of support from people of all communities the road ahead seems a positive one for him.
