New Delhi: Actress Shilpa Shetty's stay at the Big Brother's house seems not only unpleasant but is also sparking debates of her being subjected to racism.
The resilient Shilpa finds her voice in the British-Indian voyeurs for whom the racist remarks could not have been more evident.
The British Media watchdog, Ofcom, has received 2000 complaints about racism by other members.
While one of the nine participants, Jack Tweed called the sexy dasmel a "f****** Paki", another member Danielle Loyd was quick to add to the insults, calling her a “dog”.
Jackie Budden, too, made a racist remark when she addressed her as “the Indian”.
Some members did not even bother to learn the right pronunciation of her name and even poked fun at her desi accent.
And some of her friends back home haven't taken kindly to these remarks. “There could be worse comments. When you go for a show like Big Brother, you make yourself open to any comment. You allow people to talk about you,” said actor Deepak Tijori.
Though Channel 4, which broadcasts the popular reality show has called her treatment 'girly rivalry' and not 'racist', Shilpa has often been found crying after all the bullying and ribbing from her housemates.
It looks like Rs 3-crore deal with the Channel 4 surely is giving Shilpa more than what she bargained for.
