New Delhi: Back from Havana, Foreign Secretary designate Shiv Shankar Menon spent his first day getting acquainted with his South Block colleagues and his new room at the External Affairs Ministry.
In Delhi for a day before he leaves for Islamabad, Menon decided not to occupy Shyam Saran's office even as the Foreign Secretary is away in the US.
After a meeting with Minister of State for External Affairs, E Ahamed, Menon was not exactly pleased to talk about Pakistan, our new ally in the war against terror.
Menon: I'll talk on October 1, not now.
But just how will this mechanism work on the ground?
Menon: I have done whatever I had to. I have another meeting to go to.
And who'll be a part of this new terror mechanism?
Menon: You're taking my interview. (laughs)
So, any dates yet for Foreign Secretary level talks?
Menon: As soon as possible because I think we have decided that we'd do it quickly.
So, even before he becomes India's top diplomat, Menon is displaying the art of keeping the media at bay.
