New Delhi: Just a month to go before his controversial term as President of the US ends, George W Bush was literally given the boot in Iraq on Sunday.

An Iraqi journalist threw two shoes at Bush at a news conference in Baghdad which he was addressing alongside Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. The attacker missed the target by 15 m as Bush ducked just in time.

The outrageous incident is being seen as a blatant sign of the opposition to Bush's policies on the Iraq issue.

But Bush appeared unfazed. "It's one way to gain attention. It's like going to a political rally and having people yell at you. It's like driving down the street and have people not. It's a way for people to draw, you know, attention - I don't know what the guy's cause is, but one thing is for certain - he caused you to ask me a question about him. I didn't feel in the least bit threatened by it,” he said.

The attacker was later identified as a Muntadar al-Zeidi, correspondent for Al-Baghdadiya television, an Iraqi owned station in Cairo.

Bush later joked on the incident saying "all I can report is a size ten".

He believes it doesn't represent the views of the Iraqi people.
