New Delhi: After protesters tried to set a train on fire on January 28, the Uttar Pradesh government seems to be taking no risks in Gorakhpur. All trains passing through the Gorakhpur route have been diverted and some important trains have also been diverted on the Varanasi route.

Shoot-at-sight orders were issued on Monday against anyone trying to damage trains by the district administration.

Gorakhpur had witnessed violence after a Muharram procession in Khunipur area was attacked with stones. The situation went out of hand when BJP MP Yogi Adityanath and 150 supporters were arrested for trying to visit the areas under curfew, Inspector General of Police (Gorakhpur) V K Verma told PTI.

Meanwhile, reports say that the Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday revoked the suspension of former District Magistrate and SSP of Gorakhpur, action against whom had been taken following widespread violence and rioting in the city.

DM Hariom and SSP Raja Srivastava were suspended for their alleged failure in controlling the situation in the city.

Meanwhile, the state government has sent a comprehensive report to the Centre on the communal violence.

The report explained the circumstances leading to the violence and the action taken by the state government to control it.
