New Delhi: Indian marksman Gagan Narang has been recommended for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the highest sporting award of the country.
The selection committee also recommended the Arjuna Award for Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan and badminton player Jwala Gutta.
Narang won four gold medals in the 2010 Commonwealth Games and won a silver in the men's 10m air rifle singles event at the Asian Games in 2010.
He won a team silver at the Asian Games as well when he combined with Abhinav Bindra and Sanjeev Rajput in the 10m air rifle event.
Former international wrestler, Satpal Singh, heads the panel that has finalised the names of sportspersons for the Dronacharya, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awards.
The names will be sent to the Sports Ministry for a final approval. The awards will be presented on August 29, celebrated as National Sports Day that coincides with the birth anniversary of hockey legend Dhyanchand.
