Shopian rape: J-K HC orders fresh post-mortem

Srinagar: Even as public anger over the Shopian rape and double murder case and Baramullah killings fails to subside in the Kashmir Valley, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has ordered that no one can leave Shopian without special permission.

It has also directed the government to conduct a fresh post mortem on the two victims after exhuming their bodies. The court also ordered that the two key witnesses undergo a narco-analysis test.

Advocate General MI Qadri said, "The court has passed an order requesting the legal heirs of the two deceased ladies to allow their bodies to be exhumed and let the authorties conduct a fresh post-mortem."

If the family of the victims' give consent - and under a conducive atmosphere in the city - the bodies would be exhumed for samples to be matched with DNA samples of the CRPF, policemen and civilians in the area.

Qadri says, "Four policemen under suspension will be put through interrogation and narco-analysis tests. Similarly, two witnesses who have identified the police vehicle and two uniformed personnel will also be interrogated and put through a narco-analysis test."

The High Court order brings in some respite for the Omar Abdullah government in Jammu and Kashmir which has been facing strong criticism from the Opposition in the state. It has been learnt that the Chief Minister is happy with the court's intervention.
