New Delhi: The CPM on Thursday declared a hartal in Kerala to protest against the arrest of its senior leader P Jayarajan in the Shukkoor murder case.
The hartal brought the Kannur district to a standstill.
Two companies of the Rapid Action Force reached Kannur to control the law and order situation.
The CPM has called the arrest a political conspiracy by the ruling front.
There was widespread unrest in Kannur on Wednesday after comrades took to streets, attacked police stations, Congress and Muslim League buildings in northern districts.
Sporadic violence was reported from across the state. Government buses and offices were targetted.
