Jwala-Diju aim higher after Grand Prix title

New Delhi: Indian mixed doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and V Diju are the first from the country to win a Grand Prix Gold title in Chinese Taipei and they have now set new goals.

"We were just thinking about the match and wanted to win very badly. Now we are in that stage where nothing should really bother us," said Jwala.

"It was a good moment for us because we won the gold for the first time at a Grand Prix event," Diju.

Last year Saina Nehwal won gold on the singles court in Chinese Taipei but this year she was unable to make the trip. But Jwala and Diju kept the Tricolour flying high becoming the first Indian pair to win a mixed doubles title at a Grand Prix event.

"(It is) very difficult at the international level and the highest level it is very difficult. So you need to work very hard. From now on we will be taken very seriously," said Jwala.

But bigger challenges lie ahead. Ranked world No 7 both Jwala and Diju know consistency is the key.

Super Series events coming up are crucial to ensure a spot at the Masters in December where the best eight teams battle it out.

"Any one can beat any one on a given day. So in the coming tournaments we have to perform and be little more patience," said Diju.

"Top five would be reasonable enough to talk about. But it is difficult," Jwala.

Jwala is married to India's top ranked men's singles player Chetan Anand but prefers to play with Diju and not her husband.

"It is better that you see us off the court. No... actually he is happy playing singles and his game is totally different," Jwala said laughingly.

"She never shouts. I shout when there are two-three mistakes. But that is only on court. Off court we are very good friends," added Diju.
