Shyamalan's back with new film The Happening

Mumbai: M Night Shyamalan is back to scare the daylights out of the audience with his latest film The Happening — an apocalyptic disaster film starring Mark Wahlberg.

The Happening is a co-production between UTV and 20th Century Fox is all set to release in June 13. The filmmaker who is in India to receive the Padma Shri Award — talks about his film and all that’s happening with it.

Shyamalan says, “It's a scary movie and the emotional core of the film is on the subject of death. If you knew you were going to die, what would that conversation be like?”

The filmmaker is in the country to receive the Padma Shri for his contribution to cinema.

“I didn’t know about the Padma Shri Awards, in fact my parents called me and told me what a great thing it is to win a Padma Shri Award,” says Shyamalan.

Shyamalan's career has seen a downside after the critical bashing of his last two films The Village and The Lady in the Water, with many saying that he may have lost that magic touch.

The Happening could well be M Night Shyamalan's attempt to woo back the audiences he lost with The Lady in the Water.

With the director promising to go back to his roots, by addressing the fear of the known, which he did to perfection in The Sixth Sense, The Happening could mark the resurrection of his film making career.
