New Delhi: Car and two wheeler buyers will be better informed about the fuel efficiency of the vehicle they are buying from January next year.
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Thursday decided that it will provide fuel consumption information chart along with other registration documents to consumers at the time of purchase.
"Starting January 2009, all automobile makers will begin the process of displaying the fuel consumption information at the point of sale of passenger cars and two-wheelers, along with the documentation of the vehicle," SIAM President Ravi Kant said in New Delhi on Thursday.
Recognising the need to cut down on carbon di-oxide emission, he said this could be implemented by adopting an integrated and a partnership approach.
Some of the initiatives that would reduce carbon di-oxide emission include introduction of more fuel efficient vehicle, use of alternative fuels and introduction of electric and hybrid vehicles.
On the shrinking demand of vehicle, SIAM President said lack of availability of consumer finance, high interest rate, high cost of fuel and increasing input cost have impacted the sales of automobile 'quite significantly'. "These factors are having catastrophic impact on the bottom line of Indian automobile companies.
"This is resulting in withdrawal, scaling down or deferment of capital investment," Kant said.
