Sibal confident over education reform plans

New Delhi: With "expansion, inclusion and excellence" as his guiding factors to revamp Indian education, Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal on June 26 announced a slew of measures, including optional Class 10 Board exams, accreditation agencies for schools, free education and private sector involvement in primary learning.

But are these just big promises made by the HRD Ministry espacially after Sibal's own partymen insisted the initiatives taken by him are consistent with the policies of the Congress and the UPA Government.

"I have my party backing," said Sibal.

" Whatever reforms I have initiated are consistent with the policies of the party. Nothing is outside the Congress ideology. I do not want to comment on the reports that are appearing. I do expect that those responsible must have done it with certain amount of circumspection,' he added.

The Minister also emphasised that his decision is in accordance to the President's address.

" The President address says that Yashpal committee report will be implemented. I seek to do that and it is consistent with the President address," Sibal said.
