New Delhi: Heavy rains triggered massive landslides in Sikkim on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of three civilians and one General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) personnel, the state government said. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) said that seven of its workers had died in the landslides and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) claimed that 11 of its personnel were missing.

The entire north Sikkim is said to be cut off from the rest of the state. Eight houses and one building were washed away in the landslides there.

At the Teesta Hydel Project Site, a labour camp was swept away. Bridges and roads collapsed beyond Mangan and a family was said to be missing.

The BRO said that it will take at least a month to restore road connectivity to the north.
