Mumbai: Famous Ghazal singer Chitra Singh's daughter allegedly committed suicide at her residence in suburban Bandra, police said on Friday. Forty-five-year-old Monica was reportedly depressed.

"Monica Chowdhary, daughter of Chitra Singh, committed suicide by hanging herself last night at her residence in Perry Cross Road in suburban Bandra," PTI quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police Niket Kaushik as saying.

Chowdhary's body was found by her son on Friday morning, Kaushik said adding that the body has been sent for medical examinations to the Bhabha hospital.

Monica was Chitra's daughter from her first marriage to Debo Prasad Dutta. The marriage ended in a divorce after which Chitra married ghazal singer Jagjit Singh.

Monica, who had modelled briefly, was said to have a cordial relationship with Jagjit. In fact according to family sources, she respected him for the way Jagjit treated Chitra.

The singer couple had lost a son Vivek years ago in a car accident. After the accident, Chitra and Jagjit released an album post which she publicly declared that she had stopped singing.
