Singur, now a political battlefield

New Delhi: As a seven member medical team starts monitoring Mamata's failing health, political parties are into a game of one upmanship.

For the BJP, Singur offers an opportunity to hit back at both the Left and UPA. And for its leader, Rajnath Singh it is a chance to show off that he can take care of NDA allies.

On Thursday, the NDA went to the President and asked him to intervene in the issue.

“We have expressed our concern to the President and requested him to intervene,” says BJP President, Rajnath Singh.

However, while all the drama is unfolding, Mamata has the limelight all to herself after a long time.

“The message has reached from Kashmir to Kanyakumari,” says Leader, Trinamool Congress, Madan Mitra.

But more than her party's own supporters, she has the new radical left with her. Then there are those critical of Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in the Bengal Left, who are waiting and watching.

“The issue has now become Mamata’s fast and the state government’s position. Where as the original issue has faded out,” says Leader, RSP, Manojit Bhattacharya.

Singur was an unheard name in Bengal’s landscape. But now, not only has it hit the headlines, but also most political parties are trying to extract political mileage from the controversy.
