Singur: Farmers uproot Tata fence

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Special Economic Zones (SEZ) are creating a major havoc in West Bengal.

One policeman was killed and 50 people arrested in clashes at Bhowanipur in West Bengal's East Midnapore district. The clash broke out when police tried to stop activists who were protesting against the proposed SEZ in nearby Nandigram.

And tension continues at Singur too. Angry protestors uprooted the fence put up around the site for a proposed Tata Motors car plant there.

Local farmers and Trinamool Congress workers are opposing the acquisition of agricultural land for the plant.

Police had to fire tear gas shells to disperse the mob. The protestors have also started digging up roads to prevent police vehicles from moving in.
